Toxic Shame

The Answer (Addiction Narcotics Solution Which Effectuate Recovery) is a non-profit faith based organization dedicated to providing long term in-patient care to those suffering from alcohol and substance abuse illness.

The Answer provides comprehensive services to men and women whose lives have been drastically impacted by addiction. Our organization provides another doorway into recovery outside of clinical treatment systems. The Answer combats the problem of addiction by the making our clients aware of the affects of shame and its association with drug and alcohol use. Any emotion can become internalized as an identity. Gershan Kaufman suggests, the affect of shame is important because no affect is more disturbing to the self, none more central for the sense of identity. In toxic shame a person can come to believe that his whole self is fundamentally flawed and defective, the potential of toxic shame can lead to the most destructive emotional sickness of self a person can have, and Toxic shame is the root and fuel of all compulsive/addictive behaviors. Our aim towards recovery is to build a spiritual foundation that reestablishes personal self-worth. Our aim is to reach the core of addiction toxic shame and begin the process of healing in the lives of our clients.
